Professional Experience

Manager, The Country Hut - Windermere
August 2018 - January 2019

Set up and launched a cocktail bar, in a busy tourist area, with my younger sister that she now manages full time. Handled everything from negotiating with suppliers, staff hiring/ training and getting the correct licencing to serving customers, advertising and cleaning toilets.

Postgraduate Researcher - Surrey
October 2014 - June 2018

Quantitative research, data science and mathematical modelling using Matlab, C++ and excel.

  • Independent, self-motivated research and abstract problem solving focused on models of sleep.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with biologists from Surrey’s Sleep and Chronobiology lab.
  • Mathematical analysis of large data sets containing mammalian sleep timing and EEG readings.

Supervisor, Oceana Nightclub - Swansea
2012 - 2014

Promoted from assistant to supervisor in 2013. Maintained a professional and safe environment for myself, other employees and customers. Conducted one on one meetings with staff members to help improve the working environment and ensure employee satisfaction, as well as helping to organise and run interviews and assessment centres for new intakes of staff, including the training of hired staff. Game Development

Swappy Squares

Swappy Squares is an in development puzzle game where the player swaps the colours of squares to create a path to complete the level. It is written in pure javascript and therefore playable in a browser. If you'd like to keep up with development feel free to join the xSquared games discord channel. To play the game in a separate window go to the Swappy Squares Homepage!

Sector 7 is a two-player information based abstract strategy board game by designed me. A friend (Jon Pennant) helped me turn the game into a web app using Node.js and pure JS for the frontend so that it can be played over the web. Click below to "Play Online" or view the rules here.

Description

On the 4 orbits around a pink planet, both players place four/five ships, the goal of the game is to remove all of the opponent's ships.

Each player holds three cards. There are a further three cards face up in the center that each display possible movements. On a player's turn they can choose one of the cards from the center and: move one of their pieces on its orbit to the sector indicated by the chosen card, then replace the card with a card from their hand; move a moon along its orbit by the number of spaces indicated by the chosen card; or move one ship to an adjacent space. These actions may not be repeated until all possible action types have been completed.

Moving a ship onto one of the opponent's ships removes that ship from the game, as does hitting an opponent's ship with a moon. Players can regain a ship if they occupy a moon as it moves into sector 7. Removing all of the opponent's ships wins the game.
